April Issue – Real Tragedy Strikes Several Local Families

The new April issue will arrive in mail boxes and retail stacks next week. Thank you for your calls and taking time to share what you as Community like most or would like to see differently.

Some of you desire more hard-local-news. Others want “bling” in the paper. Donna’s Kitchen has a very loyal following that has expanded beyond our footprint. Some of you thrill to politics. Others are equally repelled by politics. Every month is a challenge to find and provide something that satisfies the special interests of the majority of our readers.

Late March was our deadline for news and articles. Then real tragedy struck several local families. Rather than publish several half-baked articles similar to the big daily/weekly news groups, we slowed down and took time to gather real facts about the needs of certain families in our area.

One topic that shouldn’t wait until next week’s printing is the immediate need for a Rental Home in our area. Last week Boring Fire reported a local Damascus family of 5 became homeless due to a fire on Borges Road. The family is safe but has a new daughter born only days before the fire. Please call The Sunrise Times if you have or know of a rental in this area so the family’s 2 boys can stay in their respective schools. 503-658-5056

Due to publishing just once a month in a print format, we plan to use this website as a way to keep you informed between issues so please return to this website as often as possible.

Please continue to report news and content to us. We are a volunteer staff. It is YOUR eyes/ears/knowledge that helps keep us from being the “LAST TO KNOW”. Thank you!

“CELEBRATION IN BORING” A BIG SUCCESS

“CELEBRATION IN BORING” A BIG SUCCESS

Pictured above are glimpses of a few of the many activities at this year’s “Celebration In Boring” held at the Boring Middle School. The goal of this festival is community building, family fun and raising money for park projects – goal accomplished. Over 30 community organizations staffed booths to provide information about their organization and provided activities for children. Sunrise Times even had a table to get the word out about the new newspaper – thanks Kris.

Two great bands played music all day. Activities for all ages took place throughout the day that included: the Classic Car Show, firefighters battling for a trophy in “Water Ball”, egg toss, water balloon toss, candy in the hay and a community history booth. The FBSTP and CPO booths sold Boring memorabilia in the form of “ITS COOL TO BE from BORING” and” BORING/DULL” t-shirts and hats and a dozen crafters offered their goods for sale.  On behalf of the Boring Community I would like to thank the many sponsors and volunteers who made this year’s event a big success.

*Other community newspapers may claim our neighborhoods on their mast head, and our mailing addresses inflate claims of circulation, but the reality is that very little is ever publicized in their papers about the people who live here, and only a few of our merchants have real reason to advertise outside our communities active footprint. If you live in Damascus, Boring, Carver, Barton, Sunnyside, Happy Valley or Clackamas we invite you to participate in your/our community newspaper. Remember – if you do something good, you will be in the paper!

September Issue – Read it here first.

The September issue of The Sunrise Times is on the presses today, but savy folks can find it here first.

We are proud to show off Clackamas Fire’s state of the art rescue boat. It’s on the front page.

Other front page news is a story about possible identity theft at Damascus City Hall, written by Dean Apostol. Dean also covered the the roster of local candidates seeking your November vote, and talented Marcia Sinclair informs and entertains us with an article about the challenges of growing tomatoes in our area.

Inside pages feature all of our regular writers and columns, plus lots of  Citizen Comments that arrived this month.

A special thanks goes to Brian Pasko who contributed photography that brightened our coverage of  the Boring 2012 Celebration.

A community newspaper is an amazing amount of effort from more people than you can imagine. This paper could not happen with out everyone’s work and generous help – THANK YOU EVERYONE!
